Did you know?
The Tonawanda Lumbermen, later known as the Tonawanda Kardex, emerged from a vibrant football scene in Tonawanda, New York, dating back to at least 1913. Coached by Walter "Tam" Rose throughout their existence, the team initially competed in the New York Pro Football League (NYPFL) and as an independent squad, achieving notable success and drawing considerable local support. In 1921, riding the momentum of a strong 1920 season, they briefly joined the American Professional Football Association (APFA), the precursor to the NFL, becoming one of the shortest-lived teams in professional football history. Despite their brief stint in the APFA, the Tonawanda Lumbermen, sponsored by the American Kardex company, remain a unique footnote in the annals of early professional football.
