Voters Approve $83 Million Budget for 2025-26; Elect Four to Board of Education

North Tonawanda, NY - May 21, 2025 - Residents of the North Tonawanda School District have overwhelmingly approved the proposed $83 million budget for the 2025-26 school year. The vote, held yesterday at the Fine Arts Center at the High School, saw a strong turnout with voters also electing four candidates to the Board of Education.
Proposition 1, the budget vote, passed with a tally of 457 "Yes" votes to 157 "No" votes, securing the financial foundation for the district's educational programs and services for the upcoming year.
Voters also approved Proposition 2, a measure concerning the Capital Reserve and Transportation Reserve funds, with an even wider margin. This proposition passed with 480 "Yes" votes and 130 "No" votes, indicating strong community support for maintaining and improving the district's infrastructure and transportation resources.
The results of the Board of Education election are as follows:
Chloe Mulvaugh: 452 votes
Dennis Garland, Ph.D.: 446 votes
Melissa Kimbrell: 445 votes
Jeffrey Zellner: 316 votes
James Hutton: 297 votes
The top four vote-getters, Chloe Mulvaugh, Dennis Garland, Melissa Kimbrell and Jeffrey Zellner, will fill the four available seats on the Board of Education. The terms for these seats will be determined by the Board based on prior service and/or organizational need.
"We are incredibly grateful to the community for their continued support of our schools," said a district spokesperson. "The passage of the budget and the election of our new Board members will allow us to continue providing a high-quality education for all of our students."

The election process ran smoothly, with the voting taking place from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Fine Arts Center at the High School, located at 405-455 Meadow Drive. A public hearing on the proposed budget was held on May 13th, providing an opportunity for residents to learn more about the budget and ask questions.
To be eligible to vote, residents were required to be citizens of the United States, at least 18 years of age, and residents of the school district for at least 30 days prior to the vote.
