PANTRY 383 TO HOST GRAND OPENING & COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE FOR NT’S FIRST MOBILE FOOD PANTRY

North Tonawanda, N.Y. – July 15, 2024 – A new chapter in community support is set to begin as Pantry 383 unveils North Tonawanda's first mobile food pantry at a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Monday, July 21st, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebration will take place at Pantry 383’s regular location at 383 Oliver Street and will also serve as a vital community food drive.

Founded by North Tonawanda resident Al Baker in November 2023, Pantry 383 began as a stationary dry pantry and fridge, quickly becoming a beacon of hope for many. Now, thanks to overwhelming local support and a commitment to directly addressing food insecurity, the pantry is expanding its reach by hitting the road.

The mobile unit, ingeniously repurposed from a 1992 Rockwood camper, has been transformed into a fully functional food pantry designed to travel throughout the North Tonawanda area, meeting residents where they are. While its grand opening will be held at its established location, the mobile pantry will maintain regular hours on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the flexibility to serve different neighborhoods as needed.

“We started Pantry 383 because we saw a need in our community and wanted to do something about it,” said founder Al Baker. “We never imagined it would grow this fast. The support we’ve received has been incredible, and now with the mobile pantry, we can reach even more people.”

The grand opening celebration, held in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas, will also serve as a vital community food drive. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to help stock the newly launched mobile unit.

Baker emphasized the collaborative spirit behind the initiative. “Our neighbors have stepped up time and time again. This is about giving back to the community that’s given us so much,” he added. “We believe no one should go hungry, and if we can help even one person, it’s worth it.”

For those unable to attend the grand opening but wishing to contribute, donations can be arranged by contacting Al Baker directly via phone at 716-553-4511 or email at Pantry383@gmail.com. Updates and further information are also available by following Pantry 383 on Facebook.
