NT Recreation Unveils Fall Youth Flag Football League; Registration Closes August 22nd

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY – The North Tonawanda Recreation Department is gearing up for an exciting fall season, inviting boys and girls in 3rd through 8th grade to hit the gridiron in its popular Youth Flag Football League (NTRYFFL). Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their budding athletes soon, as the deadline is fast approaching on August 22nd.

Designed to foster a positive and fun atmosphere, the NTRYFFL aims to teach the fundamentals of football while emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship in a competitive yet supportive environment. All practices, scrimmages, and games will take place at the High School Practice Field A & B.

Registration Details:

• Deadline: August 22nd

• Resident Fee: $75 per player

• Non-Resident Fee: $110 per player

• Discount: Sibling discounts are available for both residents and non-residents.

  
  

Season Structure and Objectives:

The NTRYFFL is committed to maximizing playing time for all participants by limiting team sizes. Coaches will focus on positive reinforcement and building confidence, ensuring that youth athletes learn and improve in a fun and positive manner. A strong emphasis will be placed on encouraging competitiveness without sacrificing the vital principles of sportsmanship and teamwork. The league also guarantees a socially safe and sanitary play experience for all participants.

Key Season Dates & Schedule:

The season kicks off with a mandatory clinic, followed by a period of practice and scrimmages before the regular season officially begins.

• Saturday, August 23rd: Clinics & Team Draft

  • 3rd-5th grade: 10:00 AM - 11:45 AM

  • 6th-8th grade: 12:00 PM - 1:45 PM

  • Teams will be drafted immediately after the clinics.

• Saturdays, August 30th & September 6th: Practice/Scrimmages

  • Teams will be assigned specific practice times.

  • 3rd-5th grade: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM (specific team times will vary within this window)

  • 6th-8th grade: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (specific team times will vary within this window)

• Saturday, September 13th (Approx.): Regular Season Begins

  • Games will typically be held on Saturday mornings.

  • 3rd-5th grade: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

  • 6th-8th grade: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

• The season will conclude in early November with exciting championship games.

  
  

Team Placement Policy:

While the league strives for competitive balance, the only guaranteed placement of individuals on the same team is for siblings. Due to the high volume of requests for specific team placements (preferences, carpools, etc.), the league cannot honor all non-sibling requests while maintaining balanced teams. Staff will keep requests in mind, but no guarantee or assumption should be made that such requests will be granted.
