North Tonawanda Youth Center Kicks Off Inclusive Flag Football League; Registration Now Open

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY – The North Tonawanda Youth Center, affectionately known as The REC, is proud to announce that registration is now open for its highly anticipated NT Recreation Youth Flag Football League. Designed for boys and girls in grades 3 through 8, the league emphasizes creating a positive, fun, and inclusive environment where young athletes can learn and improve their football fundamentals while fostering teamwork and sportsmanship.

"At The REC, we take pride in offering programs that serve the diverse youth population of North Tonawanda," states a representative from the center. "Our goal is to provide every child with equal opportunities for growth through inclusive activities and supervised free play, and this flag football league is a prime example of that commitment."

The league's main objectives include maximizing playing time through limited team sizes, coaching with positive reinforcement to build confidence, teaching fundamentals in an enjoyable manner, and encouraging competitiveness without sacrificing sportsmanship or teamwork. The program also prioritizes a socially safe and sanitary play experience for all participants.

Registration Details: Prospective players must register by August 22nd. The registration fee for North Tonawanda residents is $75, while non-residents can register for $110. A sibling discount is available for both resident and non-resident families.

Key Season Dates and Information: All practices, scrimmages, and games will take place at the North Tonawanda High School Practice Field A & B.

• Clinics: The season kicks off with a week of clinics on Saturday, August 23rd.

  • 3rd-5th grade: 10 AM - 11:45 AM

  • 6th-8th grade: 12 PM - 1:45 PM

  • Teams will be drafted following these clinics.

    
    

• Practice/Scrimmage Weeks: Two weeks of practice and scrimmages will follow on Saturdays, August 30th and September 6th. Specific team times will be assigned.

  • Generally, 3rd-5th grade teams will practice/scrimmage from 10 AM - 11 AM.

  • 6th-8th grade teams will practice/scrimmage from 11 AM - 12 PM.

    
    

• Regular Season Start: The regular season is set to begin on Saturday, September 13th.

  • Approximate game times will be 10 AM - 11 AM for 3rd-5th grade and 11 AM - 12 PM for 6th-8th grade.

    
    

• Season Conclusion: Championship games will be played, concluding the season in early November (exact date TBD).

  
  

Important Note on Team Placement: While siblings are guaranteed placement on the same team, the Youth Center cannot guarantee requests for other individuals to be on the same team (e.g., for carpooling or friend preferences). Staff will keep requests in mind, but the primary goal is to ensure competitively balanced teams across the league. Families are asked to keep this policy in mind before registering.
