NORTH TONAWANDA, NY – North Tonawanda families are invited to bid a fun-filled farewell to summer with a unique overnight camping experience at Pinewoods Park on Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9. The annual Family Camp Out promises a blend of outdoor adventure, friendly competition, and quality time, all for just $10 per campsite.
Designed exclusively for NT residents, this popular event provides a safe and engaging way to conclude the summer season. Each campsite accommodates up to five people and requires an adult to be present, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere.
"This campout is the perfect opportunity for families to unplug, connect with nature, and create lasting memories right here in our community," said Michelle Bernas, event organizer. "We’ve packed the schedule with activities designed to engage every family member, ensuring a safe, exciting, and truly unique summer experience."
The campout kicks off Friday, August 8, with family check-in and camp set-up between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. New this year, families can unleash their creativity in a tent decorating contest. Participants are encouraged to choose a theme, plan with their family, and have fun transforming their campsite. The winning family will receive a large pizza to enjoy.
Throughout the evening, Pinewoods Park will transform into a hub of activity:
Game Zone (6:00 PM - 9:30 PM): Featuring classic lawn games like Cornhole, Kan Jam, Giant Checkers, Giant Connect 4, Nature Tic Tac Toe, and Volleyball.
Nature Scavenger Hunt (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM): Families will team up to explore the park, hunting for specific items on a checklist and solving riddles along the way.
Guided Activities (7:00 PM - 9:30 PM): Choose from a variety of engaging sessions, including:
Ice Cream in a Bag: A delicious alternative to s'mores, or an addition to them!
Building a Campfire: Learn the basics of creating a foolproof fire, even without matches.
Camp Fire Cooking: Master the art of making S’Mores and "spider dogs."
JENGA Tournament & Other Team Games: For those who enjoy a bit of competitive fun.
The excitement culminates with the announcement of the Tent Decorating Contest winners at 8:30 p.m., followed by a Movie on the Big Screen from 9:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Quiet hours will then commence until 6:30 AM on Saturday.
Saturday, August 9, begins with Breakfast in the Pavilion from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, offering pastries, coffee, and juice for campers. Families will then have time to clean up their campsites, pack up, and exit the park by 9:00 AM.
Spots are expected to fill quickly for this popular event, so families are encouraged to register early to secure their preferred campsite. A campsite map is available online to assist with selection.
