NORTH TONAWANDA, NY – North Tonawanda City Hall recently received two new flagpoles, courtesy of the Oliver Street Merchants, paving the way for a brand new "Flag of the Month" initiative aimed at fostering community unity. The program officially kicked off this month with the display of a Women’s Rights flag.
The Oliver Street Merchants contributed significantly to the funding of the new flagpoles, with their secretary taking the lead in assembling the necessary remaining funds through community donations. The group stated their primary goal for the project is to make it possible for North Tonawanda to proudly display a community flag every month, promoting greater unity within the city.
To inaugurate the "Flag of the Month" initiative, the Oliver Street Merchants have donated a Women’s Rights flag, displayed just in time for Women’s History Month. This inaugural choice holds particular significance for the group, as their board of officers is currently comprised entirely of women, and Oliver Street is home to numerous woman-owned businesses. The Merchants are highlighting these businesses throughout the month on their social media channels.
Looking ahead, the selection of future "flags of the month" will be determined by community input. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for official communications from the Oliver Street Merchants providing guidance on how to submit their suggestions. The Merchants hope this ongoing initiative will continue to foster greater unity in North Tonawanda.
The Oliver Street Merchants leadership includes:
Lauren Schulte, President - Monarch Kitchen Design Studio
Gabbie Richards, Vice President - The Vegan Grocery Store
Katy Baker, Secretary - The Burning Candle - Gift Emporium
Judith Twoey Mittiga, Treasurer - The Vegan Grocery Store
